Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Wind slabs is the main proiblem, but large avalanches may also be triggered on persistent weak layers.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snøoverflata består i stor grad av vindpåverka snø, men i skog og skjerma terrengformasjonar kan snøen vera ubunden. På dei mest vindutsette stadane er det avblåst.

Det er fleire kantkornlag i snødekke, frå mildværskaren siste veke og frå tidlegare lengre nede i snødekke. Men det er usikkert kor lett desse er å påverka.

Onsdag blei det observert store skred i Rana.

Det er store skilnadar i snømengder i regionen.

3-6 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northeast during the afternoon. -11 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 2. April 2020

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -12 °C to -7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
