Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snøoverflata er preget av mildvær med hard skare og fokksnø i høyden. Under tregrensa er snødekket fuktig og kompakt.

Under nysnøen består det gamle snødekket stort sett av skare og smelteomvandlet snø.

Snøgrense på rundt 400 moh og skiføre fra ca 500 moh.

Observatør meldte om rask stabilisering av fokksnø tirsdag.

30 mm precipitation, up to 55 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Det gamle snødekket anses som stabilt og skredfare er i stor grad knyttet til den nyeste snøen. Kraftig vind og store nedbørsmengder fører til svært store ustabile nysnøflak i leområder over mildværsgrensa. Under mildværsgrensa er det fare for store våte skred. Stigende mildværsgrense utover dagen.
