Weather
• Percipation of snow, rain and sleet, barely any wind, complete cloud cover with occasional deep hanging clouds hindering view
Tests
• ECTPV@30cm(Q2) • Poor • Conducted 2 tests, one at the bottom of the west flank of Tverrdalsfjellet, the other on the southeast flank of Vuopmegasčohkka. Had no ice saw or cord available, used careful showel cuts instead. Results were identical in both places.
Avalanche Problems
• Dry slab avalanche • Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust • Within half a meter • The weak layer collapses easily and clean (easy propagation). The collapsing weak layer is thin < 3 cm. • Easy to trigger • 2 - Medium • Many steep slopes N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW • 2 weak layers within the first half meter. One at 10cm deep between 2 windslabs, the other 30cm deep above an ice crust
Avalanche Danger Assessment
• will stay constant for longer time • 3 Considerable • Forecast correct • Danger level was correct. The main problem wasn't solar wet snow, but persistent weak layers - the sky was completly clouded.
