Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Thursday 28.03.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but north westerly winds can create some small fresh wind slabs in leeward slopes that can be triggered by skier/snowmobile.
Sunshine can also trigger a few small loose avalanches in lower terrain.
Older persistent weak layers are considered stable as of now.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 28. March 2024

Mountain weather

Wednesday 27. March 2024

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from south. -14 °C to -8 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 28. March 2024

4 mm precipitation, up to 9 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during renoon. -11 °C to -6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Noko nysnø og periodevis sterk vind gjer at små ustabile fokksnøflak kan danne seg i leheng, hovudsakleg mot sør og aust. Her kan det vere lett å løyse ut skred.

Elles er det stabile tilhøve.
