Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Wednesday 03.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions in some slopes. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger. Avoid convex terrain.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 2. March 2021

Mountain weather

Tuesday 2. March 2021

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southwest. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 3. March 2021

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -11 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Her kan ein skiløpar lett løyse ut middels store skred i nokre heng.
