Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Friday 04.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid release areas with newly deposited wind slabs. The wind slabs will be most prominent in lee areas facing south and east. Persistent weak layers exist but are in general hard to trigger.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 3. March 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 3. March 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from northwest. -11 °C to -6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 4. March 2022

3 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the evening. -13 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skred kan løysast ut i fersk fokksnø enkelte stadar. Desse finnast i hovudsak i leområder mot sør og aust, men mange stadar vil desse ha stabilisert seg raskt i dei milde temperaturane. Vedvarande svake lag finnast i snødekket, men er truleg vanskelege å påverke.
