Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Saturday 24.02.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Locally unstable conditions. Strong southerly winds can cause naturally triggered avalanches in the fresh wind slabs. There is also areas with persistent weak layers in the mountains.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Siste dagene har snø blitt flyttet inn i nordvendte leheng av kraftig sørlig vind. Siste snøfall av betydning var forrige helg.

Det har blitt observert kantkorn under skarelaget som dannet seg under mildværet i månedsskifte januar-februar, både i indre og ytre strøk.

Onsdag ble det observert flere små skred over FV 889 ved Bakfjorden, ut mot Havøysund.

Little to no precipitation. Gale from south. -4 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mye snø har blitt flyttet på av siste dagers vind. Der det fortsatt blåser inn snø i leheng kan det gå enkelte naturlig utløste middels store skred. Mest utsatt er nordvendte heng.

Milde temperaturer gjør at fokksnøen relativt raskt vil stabilisere seg, men det finnes også svake lag av kantkorn under gammel skare. Det kan være lett for en person som beveger seg i bratt terreng å løse ut skred på disse. Drønn og skytende sprekker er tydelig tegn på at det svake laget er tilstede.
