Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Friday 31.01.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions in higher areas. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Under 1000 masl rising temperature and rain may give wet avalanches.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Det er stor variasjon i snødekket i regionen og generelt høy snøgrense. Det er sammenhengende snødekke fra 700-900 moh, høyest snøsgrense i ytre del.
Forrige uke kom det godt med snø i høyden, mest i fjellområdene vest i regionen og tidvis med kraftig vind. Søndag blåste det kraftig fra SV og det ble meldt om kraftig snøfokk i høyden. Siden har det kommet litt ny snø med lite vind.
Det gamle snødekket er stabilt etter mildvær og gjenfrysing.

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -11 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 31. January 2020

15 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during renoon. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Fortsatt nedbør og vind vil fornye problemet med ferske, ustabile nysnøflak i lenheng. Dreiende vind gjør at vi etter hvert vil ha ferske flakdannelser både i V, N og Ø.

I lavere områder vil stigende temperatur og regn kunne gi noen mindre, våte skred i bratt terreng.
Vær også oppmerksom på at det er forhold for glideskred og unngå opphold under sigesprekker.
