Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Saturday 19.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
At higher altitudes avoid areas with wind-deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Keep distance to areas with gliding cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 18. March 2022

Mountain weather

Friday 18. March 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -9 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 19. March 2022

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Soloppvarming vil utover dagen auke faren for våte laussnøskred i bratt soleksponert terreng.

Unngå områder under glidesprekkar.
