Avalanche warning for region Heiane Thursday 09.04.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
The wind and precipitation are both decreasing, and temperature gets lower. The avalanche danger is decreasing. Deep crevasses in wet snow on steep and even rock surfaces, may be signs of danger for glide avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Glide avalanches

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 8. April 2020

Ellers ikkje relevante svake lag.

Mountain weather

Wednesday 8. April 2020

2-4 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from west. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 9. April 2020

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from west, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Vind i høgda gir noko fersk fokksnø i høgda, men det er venta at flaka blir små. Lågare i fjellet er snødekket stort sett attfrôse, men ved sigesprekker er det forhold for glideskred.
