Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 04.02.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Naturally released wet avalanches is expected due to high temperatures and rain. Use caution in steep terrain with fresh wind slabs in the alpine.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snøoverflata er vindpåvirket og det ligger mest snø i høyden i østvendte heng. Ellers avblåst barmark eller gammel skare. Det er generelt lite snø under 1000-1100 moh.

Torsdag meldes det om snø over 300moh på fomiddagen.

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Calm/light breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the south during renoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 4. February 2022

30 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Friday night. Strong breeze from west. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Første del av dagen er det fortsatt mildt og det ventes noen middels store naturlig utløste våte skred. Utover dagen synker temperaturen og faren for denne type skred avtar.

Over mildværsgrensa vil nysnø og vind fra vest danne ustabile fokksnøflak som kan være lett å løse ut. Der det kommer mest snø kan enkelte skred bli store. Temperaturøkningen på natten vil stabilisere eldre fokksnø og det er den ferske fokksnøen fredag som utgjør skredproblemet.
