Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 13.01.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind and fresh snow may give instable conditions in some slopes. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger. Avoid convex terrain.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 12. January 2023

Mountain weather

Thursday 12. January 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l Thursday night. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the southwest during renoon. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 13. January 2023

13 mm precipitation, up to 22 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
