Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 24.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 23. February 2023

Mountain weather

Thursday 23. February 2023

6-10 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the west during the afternoon. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 24. February 2023

3-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l Friday night. Fresh breeze from north. -10 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
