Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 15.03.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be aware of isolated wind slabs high up. Wet avalanches is possible in steep terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 14. March 2024

Snøgrensa kryp oppover i mildvêret.

Mountain weather

Thursday 14. March 2024

2 mm precipitation, up to 7 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the south during the evening. -2 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 15. March 2024

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from south. -2 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
