Avalanche warning for region Lyngen Wednesday 20.04.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Large wet avalanches can occur. The probability of avalanches is highest on sun-facing slopes. Avalanches in persistent weak layers can get very large.

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

I påska har det vore mildt høgt til fjells, og sol tysdag har gjort at snøoverflata har blitt fuktig eller våt dei fleste stadar. Klarvær gjer at det truleg har fryst på om natta. I nordvendte fjellsider i høgfjellet kan det framleis vere tørr snø.

I slutten av mars utvikla det seg kantkorn rundt eit skarelag nede i snødekket. Dette førte til mange skred før og i starten av påska.

I samband med høgare temperaturar har det dei siste dagane gått våte laussnø- og flakskred.

Avalanche risk assessment

Klarvêr om natta fører til gjenfrysing og stabilisering av snødekket, men når sola tek vil det tine og faren for skred og skavlbrot aukar. Våte laussnø- og flakskred kan då gå naturleg. Om skred går på vedvarande svake lag kan dei bli store til svært store. Sannsynet for skred er størst i bratte solvendte sider utover dagen.
