Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Friday 06.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Where the snow is dry, wind slabs can easily be triggered or released naturally. As the temperature rises during the day, the probability of wet loose snow and slab avalanches increases. If persistent weak layers are affected by people or weather, large avalanches can occur.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 5. May 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 5. May 2022

1-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the south during renoon. -14 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 6. May 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l during the evening. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the south during the evening. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
