Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Monday 30.01.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Naturally triggered avalanches can occure.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

I løpet av onsdag ble det kaldere og regn gikk over til snø i høyden.

Det gamle snøoverflaten har blitt smelteomvandlet helt til topps. Man må over 1000 moh for å finne lagdelinger i gammelt snødekke.

Det er generelt veldig lite snø, og det er mye oppstikkende stein særlig på rygger og vindutsatte steder.
Siden lørdag har det snødd i høyden med periodevis kraftig vind. Regn i lavlandet.

45 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 30. January 2023

50 mm precipitation, up to 70 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during renoon. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during renoon. -9 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Synkende snøgrense med mye nedbør og kraftig vind vil fortsette pålagring av fokksnø i leheng over tregrensen. Heng som får stor pålagring vil opprettholde fare for naturlig utløste skred. Mest utsatt er klassiske skredbaner som har høytliggende leheng mot nord, øst og sør. Skred kan bli store.

Det vil nå finnes mange heng med ferske flakdannelser som kan være lett for en skiløper å påvirke. Mest utsatt er heng mot nord, øst og sør, som har fått pålagring siste døgnet. Skred kan bli middels store og enkelte steder store.
