Avalanche warning for region Salten Monday 11.04.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The situation is tricky, conservative terrain choices are recommended. Multiple avalanche problems are expected. Newly formed wind slabs can be triggered. Wet loose avalanches are likely in the afternoon as the sun heats the new snow. Old persistent weak layers can be triggered and produce large avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 10. April 2022

Snøoverflaten er en salig blanding av alle sorters snø. Alt fra tørr, løs og ubunden til hard fokksnø og avblåste mildværskare.

I overgangen mellom skare og tørr nysnø er det observert kantkorn.

Mountain weather

Sunday 10. April 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the east during the afternoon. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 11. April 2022

1-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from east, changing to breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -16 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
