Avalanche warning for region Salten Saturday 29.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Danger of naturally released avalanches due to rain at lower altitudes. In the alpine, avoid steep slopes with new snow until it is stabilized.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Fredag kom det en del nedbør som regn i lavlandet, som gradvis gikk fra fuktig til tørr nysnø høyere i terrenget. Bygevær gjør at det trolig er stor forskjell i mengde nysnø. Den gamle snøpakka er stort sett helt smelteomdannet opp til 1000 moh.

Det svake laget av kantkorn som var i ferd med å utvikle seg under fokksnøen fra sist helg, er trolig avrundet og ikke lenger noe potensielt problem.

6 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the west during renoon. -5 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 29. April 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Over mildværsgrensa kommer nedbøren som sludd eller snø. Snøen vil stabiliseres raskt lavt i terrenget der det er forholdsvis varmt. Høyt til fjells og i indre strøk kan det ta noe lengre tid, i de områdene kan det legge seg ustabile nysnøflak om det er nok vind til det.

Det kan løsne våte skred av seg selv under mildværsgrensa der nedbøren kommer som regn. I bratt terreng med våt og løs snø kan det også være lett for skiløpere å løse ut skred. Skredproblemet kan også være til stede i bratt, soleksponert terreng høyere til fjells hvis det blir gløtt av sol.
