Avalanche warning for region Salten Tuesday 09.01.2024

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Natural avalanches expected due temperature rise and rain. Fresh storm slabs are the problem in the mountains. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Mandag morgen er det plussgrader ved havnivå, og regn i kystnære fjellområder. Temperaturen er også økende i indre deler av regionen. Tidligere i helgen viser observasjoner at det stedvis var løs og ubunden snø i terrenget, men at økende vind søndag ettermiddag begynte å flytte på snøen.

Det er observert lag av rim under flak høyt i snødekket. Det finnes svake lag av kantkorn både ved bakken og høyere oppe i snøen.

45 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -6 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 9. January 2024

40 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1200 m a.s.l Tuesday night. Strong breeze from west. -2 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mye nedbør, høy temperatur og vind gir stor skredfare. Der nedbøren kommer som regn venter vi at det kan løsne våte skred av seg selv.

Høyt til fjells i indre deler av regionen vil kraftig vind og nysnø legge opp fokksnøflak i leområder, som kan løsne av seg selv eller bli løst ut av skikjørere. Faren for naturlig utløste skred i den nyeste snøen er størst når, og der, nedbøren er på sitt mest intense.
