The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Hele snøpakken er smelteomvandlet opp til ca. 700 moh etter mildvær. Videre opp har snøoverflaten vært våt eller fuktig til ca. 1200 moh. Høyt til fjells kan det i leområder ligge tørre flak av vindtransportert snø.

12 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l Thursday night. Fresh breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 17. February 2023

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

På fredag ventes etter hvert kuling fra nordvest med snøbyger. Dette gir raskt økende skredfare. Leheng som vender mot sør og øst, der vinden legger igjen fokksnø, er mest utsatt. En skiløper vil lett kunne løse ut store skred der fokksnøen ligger som myke flak.

Bygevær kan gi lokale variasjoner i nedbørsmengde. Skredfaren er størst i områder som får mest snø og vind.
