Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Saturday 07.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The first part of the day will be wet, and naturally released avalanches are possible.
From midday, cooler weather will form wind slabs in the alpine. Spontaneous released dry avalanches might occur.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 6. May 2022

Mountain weather

Friday 6. May 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong breeze from southwest. -2 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 7. May 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l Saturday night. Gale from southwest, changing to gale from the west during the afternoon. -3 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
