Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Tuesday 17.05.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Use caution in areas with wind deposited snow high in the alpine towards the evening. Generally stable conditions otherwise. In very steep terrain with wet snow there is still a danger for triggering small wet snow avalanches. Glide snow avalanches are unpredictable. Avoid areas beneath glide-cracks.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 16. May 2022

Stedvis mye vann i snøen.

Mountain weather

Monday 16. May 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Monday night. Fresh breeze from north, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -4 °C to 0 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 17. May 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -5 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå terreng under glidesprekker.
