Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Monday 18.04.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The stability of the snowpack will get poorer due to rising temperatures. Wet avalanches can occur in loose snow, wind slabs, and on a persistent weak layer, which has the potential to give very large avalanches. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 17. April 2022

Mountain weather

Sunday 17. April 2022

2 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 18. April 2022

2 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during renoon. -1 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
