Weather
• No precipitation • -4 °C • 2 m/s from N ↓ • Scattered clouds with sun today. Yesterday heavy snowfall, averaging 2 cm/h, with moderate wind.
Snow Cover
• 40 cm • Very much loose snow (>30cm) • Perfect • New snow, low density covering heavily wind affected surfaces overlying previously wet snow and welll bonded. Yesterday this interface was not reactive to skiing on cross loaded slopes (to 35°). Crust is hard and several cm thick and overlies still moist/wet grains below 500 m
Avalanche Problems
• Loose dry avalanche • Loose snow • Easy to trigger • 2 - Medium • N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW
• Dry slab avalanche • Buried weak layer of new snow • Easy to trigger • 2 - Medium • Some steep slopes NE, E, SE, S, SW • Lee and crossloaded slopes. Storm and wind slabs
Avalanche Danger Assessment
• 40+ cm new snow at sea level and recent moderate to extreme winds have created storm and windslabs in lee and crossloaded features. Limited observations show a widespread loose snow avalanche cycle to size 2. No slab avalanches observed but suspected. • Snowpack will continue to settle today but hazard will increase with sunny periods and with any wind. • 3 Considerable • Forecast too low • Much higher snowfall amounts than elsewhere in the forecast region
