Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Thursday 04.05.2023

Wind slabs will be easy to trigger, especially where there has been heavy snowfall recently. Coastal areas seem to be most severely impacted, especially the area around Øksfjordhalvøya.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Det har kommet en del snø i regionen de siste dagene. I helgen var det kraftig vind fra sør, og i starten av uken bris fra nordlig sektor. Mest snø virker ha kommet på Øksfjordhalvøya. I tirsdagsdøgnet kom det 20mm nedbør i Nuvsvåg mens det kom 1mm i Alta.
Det gamle snødekket er påvirket av mildvær og drenerer smeltevann godt.

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from north. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 4. May 2023

4-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Snøfallet ventes å roe seg noe, men gårdagens fokksnøflak kan fortsatt være lette å løse ut der det har kommet som mest snø. Dette vil være mest utpreget i området rundt Øksfjordhalvøya.

I indre strøk der det kom mindre snø ventes det kun små fokksnøflak.
