Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Tuesday 14.05.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Be aware of rising temperatures and rain up to the highest peaks in the afternoon. The risk of natural wet avalanches increases throughout the day. Some large naturals can be possible. Be aware of signs of wet snow instability such as a wet snow surface and rolling balls. Evaluate the terrain you have above you.
  • The danger is greatest from Tuesday afternoon

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Før helgen kom det litt nysnø i fjellene over ca. 300 moh. I etterkant har mildværsgrensen og regn steget høyt til fjells og det antas at overflate er smelteomvandlet opp til fjelltoppene. I lavere strøk og langs kysten pågår det snøsmelting og snøgrensen trekker seg oppover.

Kantkornlag dypere i snødekket er sannsynligvis fortsatt tilstede høyt til fjells. Hvorvidt disse lagene har blitt fuktet av pågående mildvær er foreløpig ukjent. Forrige uke ble et skred fjernutløst på et vedvarende svakt lag mellom skare og fokksnø. Vi antar at helgens mildvær har gjennomfuktet og stabilisert dette laget.

4 mm precipitation, up to 9 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest. 2 °C to 6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Stigende temperaturer og regn fra ettermiddag øker sannsynligheten for våte flakskred som kan løsne av seg selv. Dette gjelder alle høyder og himmelretninger. Om og når naturlige skred vil løsne de neste dagene er usikkert og avhengig av om fritt vann når og svekker høytliggende vedvarende svakt lag.
