Avalanche warning for region Vest-Telemark Wednesday 03.03.2021

Be careful on steep slopes with soft and wet snow, a skier can trigger avalanches here, or they can release when the temperature increases. At high altitudes, a persistent layer of facets are buried in the snowpack in isolated areas that may give big avalanches.

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of surface hoar

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Over 1300 moh ligg det finkorna snø i overflata, under 1000 moh er snødekket gjennomfukta og det er skare på overflata.

I høgfjellet over ca. 1200 moh finst det framleis vedvarande svakt lag med kantkorn i snødekket.

Tysdag vart det observert eit vått flakskred i Setesdal. og søndag gjekk det eit glideskred i Setesdal

Tysdag ettermiddag er det 2,1 grader C og omlag vindstille på Hovden i Setesdal.

Wednesday 3. March 2021

No precipitation. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

I høgfjellet vil det framleis vere mogeleg å løyse ut skred på vedvarande svakt lag av kantkorn, men stort sett er overliggande snø hard og bærande og det skal mykje til for å påverke desse laga.
I låglandet der snødekket er smelteomvandla er det stort sett stabile forhold.
Soloppvarming kan føre til små våte laussnøskred i bratte solvendte sider.
