The week before Easter NVE hosted visitors from Italy. The visit consisted of a three-day workshop with representatives from CNR Irpi , Perugia, Italy.
In addition to the representatives from CNR Irpi (Institute for Geo-Hydrological Research of the National Research Council), representatives from Bane NOR, NGI, NGU, and UiO students attended the workshop.
CNR Irpi holds national expertise in hazard and risk assessment for landslides, as designated by the Department of Civil Protection in Italy. They have developed a framework for landslide forecasting for landslides triggered by rain, which is utilized both nationally and regionally. They send daily forecasts to the Italian Department of Civil Protection. Furthermore, they have assisted India in establishing a national warning system.
Unlike NVE, CNR Irpi do not directly issue hazard warnings. This organizational difference sparked intriguing discussions during the visit.
Throughout the workshop, both CNR Irpi and NVE presented their work, including landslide mapping, hazard mapping, landslide indexes, modeling of landslides, and evaluation of these models. Engaging discussions ensued covering methodological variations, shared challenges, and new ideas.
The workshop concluded with a brainstorming session on future collaboration. Proposed projects ranged from small-scale technical solutions to how information can be communicated to users.
