2

Strong wind gusts ongoing, yellow level (MET)

Published: Valid: from 28.12.2022 00:50 to 28.12.2022 03:00

Warning

Wind gusts

  • Sender: MET Norway
  • Danger ongoing: Wednesday, December 28, 2022, kl.12:50 AM
  • Danger decrease: Wednesday, December 28, 2022, kl. 3:00 AM
  • Certainty: Observed - 100%

Consequence

Loose items may be taken by the wind. Possibly cancelled departures for ferry, plane, or other transport. Bridges may be closed. Some journeys may have longer travel times. The power supply may be impacted, due to tree(s) falling over. Some roads may be closed due to trees or other objects in the road. Blowing snow causes reduced visibility and possibly convoys and/or closed roads. High waves may cause damage to infrastructure and buildings in the coastal zone.

Advice

Secure loose objects. Avoid unnecessary journeys to exposed places. Follow advice and check status from transport operators. Check road reports (175.no). Be careful in coastal areas. In advance consider measures to limit damage.

Description

Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning there are observed storm force 10 and wind gusts of 35.9 m/s on Myken on the coast of Sør-Salten. There is still expected northwest severe gale force 9 to storm force 10, and locally severe wind gusts of 30-37 m/s in Salten and Southern Lofoten early Wednesday morning, but the wind is expected to decrease rapidly later during the morning.
