Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Monday 08.05.2023

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but rain can cause small naturally triggered wet loose snow avalanches at lower elevations. In the mountains small fresh wind slabs in some lee-slopes can be easy to trigger.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 7. May 2023

Det er fortsatt en del snø i terrenget, men ujevnt fordelt og mye bare rabber. Mildvær i helgen har sannsynligvis fuktet nysnøen som kom i forrige uke. Gammelt snødekke består i hovedsak av smelteformer.

Mountain weather

Sunday 7. May 2023

2 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -6 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 8. May 2023

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l Monday night. Fresh breeze from west. -2 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
