Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Monday 19.02.2024

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Unstable wind slabs may cover a persistent weak layer in lee areas. Avalanches can be triggered by a single skier. Naturally released avalanches may occur.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 18. February 2024

Mountain weather

Sunday 18. February 2024

7 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest. -9 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 19. February 2024

8 mm precipitation, up to 14 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from west. -7 °C to -4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
