Avalanche warning for region Hallingdal Sunday 27.03.2022

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable avalanche conditions. Use caution in areas with wind deposited snow and cornices and where the sun makes the snow surface wet and soft.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 26. March 2022

Snøoverflaten er preget av smelteformer etter varme og gjenfrysing på natta. Over på mildværsgrensa, høyt til fjells, ligger noe fersk fokksnø i østvendt terreng over eldre hard fokksnø. Snøfordelingen er ujevn, med mest snø i østvendt terreng. Snømengden øker vestover i regioene.

Mountain weather

Saturday 26. March 2022

No precipitation. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during renoon. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 27. March 2022

Little to no precipitation. Moderate gale from west, changing to strong gale from the west during the evening. -3 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

I solvendt terreng ut over dagen vil snøen kunne bli ustabil. I leområder, høyt til fjells, finnes tørr fokksnø som i hovedsak er stabil, men som kan påvirkes der flakene er tynne og myke.
