Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Monday 30.12.2019

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Wet natural avalanches are expected. The avalanche danger stays at the same level as long as the rain continues. Avoid boht avalanche release and run out areas.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Det har vore sterk vind og mykje nedbør siste døgnet med regn opp i 2000 moh. I områder nedbøren har kome som snø har den lagt seg i austlege leheng.
Det er generelt lite snø i regionen under 700 moh, spesielt i vestlege delar.

Der har vore observert kantkorn ved bakken.

Det er sundag observert fleire naturleg utløyste våte laussnøskred av storleik 2-3 ved Hovdaflota,

Avalanche risk assessment

Pågåande kraftig nedbør og vind frå vest vil legge opp store mengder fokksnø i austlege leheng over 1000 moh. Det er venta at skred løysnar av seg sjølv. Der nedbøren kjem som regn på snøen vil ein få svekka bindingar og auka vekt. Dette kan gje store våte skred.
Pålagringa og svekkinga påverkar òg eventuelle vedvarande svake lag, som kan gje skred ved bakken.
