Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Sunday 24.01.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
It might be easy to trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slab. At some spots it might also be possible to trigger avalanches in persistent weak layers of facets deeper in the snow pack. Large avalanches might be the result.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 23. January 2021

Snøgrensa går 400 moh. i ytre strøk, litt lågare i indre strøk.

Mountain weather

Saturday 23. January 2021

8 mm precipitation, up to 14 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
