Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Sunday 23.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
The stability decreases when the snow gets wet. Avoid areas beneath visible gliding cracks, release areas and run out areas for wet snow avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow beneath a crust

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 22. April 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 22. April 2023

Little to no precipitation. Calm/light breeze from northeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the evening. -9 °C to 5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Sunday 23. April 2023

12 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1500 m a.s.l Sunday night. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå opphold under glidesprekker.
