Avalanche warning for region Heiane Wednesday 12.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The avalanche problem consists of wind slabs due to snow showers in and high wind speed, especially in the evening. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 11. February 2020

Mountain weather

Tuesday 11. February 2020

40 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the evening. -5 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 12. February 2020

14 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
