Avalanche warning for region Heiane Monday 09.01.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here. Vet avalanches are possible where the snow is wet.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 8. January 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 8. January 2023

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l. Fresh breeze from southeast. -2 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 9. January 2023

15 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l Monday night. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -3 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredproblemene ventes mest fremtredende sørvest i regionen i Dalane
