Avalanche warning for region Heiane Sunday 19.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, for example behind ridges, ribs and in gullies, especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft. A slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 18. February 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 18. February 2023

2-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Saturday night. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 19. February 2023

10 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from northwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -12 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
