Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Saturday 24.03.2018

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

New snow and wind from southwest on an unstable snowpack can lead to naturally triggered avalanches. Stay away from all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4). Remote triggering is possible.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Avalanche risk assessment

Kombinasjonen av mye snø og vind på et allerede ustabilt snødekke gir fare for store naturlig utløste skred. Hovedproblemet vil være skred i den ferske fokksnøen som kan trigge større skred dypere i snødekket. Våte løssnøskred er også mulig i lavere høyder på grunn av plussgrader og regn, spesielt på kysten. Skredfaren vil øke når vinden øker og antas å kunne nå faregrad 4 i løpet av ettermiddagen lørdag. Faren for våte skred er også størst på ettermiddagen når temperaturen er høyest. Når snøværet gir seg og temperaturen synker vil faren for skred avta. Varselet er basert på et enklere datagrunnlag enn regionale varsler og utgis kun for faregrad 4 og 5.
