Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Friday 18.03.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The avalanche danger is rising with the incoming weather. Naturally released avalanches are possible in the alpine. Skiers could easily trigger recently formed wind slabs. Wet avalanches are likely at lower elevations.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between crust and overlying snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 17. March 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 17. March 2022

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the southeast during the evening. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 18. March 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to gale from the southwest during the evening. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
