Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Wednesday 26.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avalanches can be triggered in steep slopes with soft and wet snow. At higher elevations, be aware in areas with wind slabs.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 25. April 2023

Mountain weather

Tuesday 25. April 2023

5-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the east during the afternoon. -7 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 26. April 2023

3-5 mm precipitation. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from east, changing to breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
