Avalanche warning for region Lyngen Thursday 17.03.2022

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but be careful in steep terrain in the alpine, especially where wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here. Wet avalaches might be possible to trigger in all aspects, but we assume that the snowpack would drain the precipitation well.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 16. March 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 16. March 2022

No precipitation. Breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the south during the afternoon. -10 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Thursday 17. March 2022

3-5 mm precipitation. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to breeze from the south during the afternoon. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
