Wet avalanches can release in steep terrain where the snow is wet and loose. Wind slabs are a problem at higher elevations.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Monday 16. May 2022

Regn og stigende temperaturer den siste uka har gjort snøoverflaten våt og fuktig oppover i fjellet. På nasjonaldagen ventes nysnø ned til ca 200-300moh først på dagen.

Rundt skare fra 23. april har det vært temperaturgradient og utviklet seg kantkorn. Utviklingen og egenskapene har variert, men de fleste steder har kornene vært små og laget har ikke utgjort et tydelig skredproblem.

I helgen ble det observert mange små til middels store løssnøskred i regionen, og et par flakskred. Flest skred er observert i sørlig og vestlig sektor.

9 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Monday night. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 17. May 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during the evening. Breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nysnø sammen med vind vil fra formiddagen legge opp ferske fokksnøflak i høyden. Disse vil stabiliseres raskt, men helt ferske flak kan være lette å løse ut.

I lavlandet kan det fortsatt være lett å løse ut små løssnøskred i bratt terreng med våt, løs, snø. Husk at også små skred kan gi konsekvenser nær terrengfeller.
