Avalanche Danger Assessment
• The snow conditions appear generally stable although we still note that there is a PWL in the snowpack. On the west side of Ullsfjord a couple of avalanches have been observed in recent days. In lower altitudes, and higher on southerly aspects, the melt - refreeze cycle has given crust. At higher altitudes and areas sheltered from the sun, the snow surface is mostly hard windslabs, with some areas of sastrugi and old ice crust.
• The clouds, slightly lower temperature and a little bit more wind suggest less warmening of southern aspects. The refreeze will strengthen the snowpack even further, otherwise no major change.
• The strategic mindset is “status quo”, we still note the persistent weak layer, although otherwise stable conditions. The snow surface is in general hard, making a fall in a steep/exposed place dangerous. Breakable crust is also a challenge, especially in the forest.
