Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Friday 04.02.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The avalanche hazard increases as the wind picks up. It’s possible with avalanches in wind slabs, which may be on top of persistent weak layers. Deep persistent layers exist, but are very difficult to trigger.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 4. February 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 3. February 2022

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the evening. -22 °C to -12 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 4. February 2022

5-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Strong gale from southeast. -20 °C to -15 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
