Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Saturday 26.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Locally unstable conditions. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the wind slabs.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 25. March 2022

Det har vært vekslende temperaturer med mye mildvær den siste tida. Nå har temperaturen sunket og snøoverflaten består av skare med litt nysnø oppå opp til ca 600-800 moh. Over ca 800-1000 moh er snødekket stort sett tørt.

Det er tidligere observert kantkorn over ca. 500 moh, men dette ansees ikke som et skredproblem nå.

Mountain weather

Friday 25. March 2022

3-5 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from east. -12 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 26. March 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -14 °C to -8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
