Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Saturday 07.05.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The first part of the day will be wet, and naturally released avalanches are possible.
From midday, cooler weather will form wind slabs in the alpine. Spontaneous released dry avalanches might occur.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

20 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l Saturday night. Gale from southwest, changing to gale from the west during renoon. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Gjennom natten og første del av dagen kan det fortsatt ventes noen våte løssnøskred og noen store våte flakskred. Faren for naturlig utløste skred var likefullt størst når mildværet var på sitt mest intense fredag.

Utover ettermiddagen og kvelden blir det kjøligere og skredfaren vil være knyttet til fersk fokksnø. Noen steder kan det danne seg store ustabile flak med fokksnø. Disse kan løsne naturlig etterhvert som det legges opp mer og mer snø.
