Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Friday 30.12.2022

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Over tregrensa er snøen for det meste hard og bærande etter vindpåverknad. På utsatte stader er det avblåst.

Lokalt kan det framleis ligge att nedsnødd svakt lag av overflaterim som vart danna i midten av desember. På fjellet i indre strøk finst det svake lag av kantkorn i snødekket.

Tirsdag er det observert små naturlig utløste flakskred.

Det er meldt om drønn fra flere steder i regionen.

Little to no precipitation. Gale from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -12 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Sterk vind lagar fokksnøflak. Vinden flyttar snø også under tregensa. Her finst det mykje laussnø som kan flyttast..Det kan vere lett å løyse ut skred på vedvarande svake lag. Det har vore observert både drønn og mindre skred dei siste dagane. Dette tyder på at det framleis er mogeleg å påverke desse laga. Der det ligg tjukk og hard vindpakka fokksnø i overflata skal det meir til for å løsye ut skred.
