Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Sunday 28.01.2024

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Avoid all avalanche terrain. Rain will weaken the snowpack well into the alpine in the evening.

Large avalanches are likely either as wind slabs within Saturday's slabs or fail on persistent weak layers.

Wet, loose avalanches are likely.

Lørdag traff et uvær regionen med mye vind og nedbør, samt høy snøgrense.

Mildværet har trolig påvirket snøoverflaten kraftig og har gitt mye smelting.

Over snøgrensen ventes det å ha blitt kraftig pålagring av fokksnø i leheng.

I overgangen mellom skarelag fra sist mildvær (9.1.) og overliggende fokksnø er det et vedvarende svakt lag av kantkorn.

Vedvarende svake lag dypere i snødekket ligger godt beskyttet av et hardt skarelag eller fokksnø og er vanskelig å påvirke.

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to strong gale from the south during the afternoon. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l.

Sunday 28. January 2024

25 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the evening. Gale from southwest. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Uværet tar et lite hvileskjær første på dagen, før det kommer tilbake med full styrke utpå dagen.

Lokalt kan det komme mye nedbør og kraftig vind.

I lavlandet kan det fortsatt gå våte skred.

Over mildværsgrensen vil det blir kraftig pålagring i leheng, som allerede har mye snø etter lørdagen. Enkelte skred kan bli svært store.

Naturlig utløste skred ventes, både våte og tørre skred.

All ferdsel i skredterreng frarådes.
